Beginning Art: Primary Colors Ages 4-7

Instructor: Erin Spainhour Description: Your child will be learning about Primary Colors and the Elements of Art. They will create projects based on each color and element using a variety of mediums. Along with the other projects, they will work on creating one piece of art that includes all the colors and is inspired by a famous artist! Your child will go home with knowledge of the primary colors, the elements of art, and have an introduction to a new artist.



Beginning Art: Secondary Colors

Paint like Picasso

Intro to Art Journaling

Description:
Learn how to get started with art journaling. This is a fun way to let your creative self play, to process thoughts and emotions, to try new techniques and work out ideas. The class will provide you with different approaches to facing that blank page that you can then make your own. A handmade beginning art journal will be provided. Let’s get started together and see where the journey leads us!
Supplies:

• Various paper ephemera and memorabilia collected over time: Ex: ticket stubs, maps, trip receipts & brochures, scrapbook paper, bit of gift wrap, stickers
• Matte medium and/or a glue stick (to adhere ephemera and seal pages)
• Black and white paint markers
• Any acrylic paint colors that you love
• Optionally (if you already own things you love using): favorite magazines, photos (or copies of photos), washi tape, markers/pens, acrylic paints, stamps with waterproof ink pad, light modeling paste (for texture)



Mixed Media Canvas Art

3-D Foundations

Dates: Thursdays, Feb. 8 – March 8, 2018

Instructor: Carey Morton Description: This is an introductory course into the principles of 3-dimensional design. Utilizing various materials ranging from, wood, cardboard, plaster, and wire to name a few, students will craft freestanding sculptures while learning formal principles of sculpture and spacial relationships. Along with these foundations of working in 3D space, concept, context, and the role sculpture plays in the world of art will be explored.
Supplies: hot glue guns, box cutters, tin snips, wire, paper, card board, small pieces of wood, and various hand tools in conjunction with various materials



Found object and Bricolage Sculpture
Date: Thursdays, March 15 – April 12, 2018
Times: 9:30am – 12:30pm Cost: $150 Members/$165 Nonmembers Instructor: Carey Morton This class will focus on creating found object and bricolage sculpture as popularized by contemporary sculpture artists such as Tom Sachs. Students will collect and bring found objects and readily available materials from which to curate, manipulate, destroy, and reassemble into more complex three-dimensional sculpture explorations. With an introduction into basic hand and some power tools students will use principles of 3-D design and spatial relationships in conjunction with higher aspects of concept and context in relation to their piece. Found objects and materials around us, from items found in nature, to society's forgotten throwaways contain an inherent conceptual context that speaks to our current cultural understanding of object and form. We will explore, experiment and challenge these ideas by reinterpreting these objects and materials into unique contemporary works of sculpture. Supplies:students would bring their own found materials Also, hand tools such as drills, screw drivers, pliers, chisels, and hammers, supplemental materials such as wood and hardware if they have them



Figurative Sculpture
Date: Tuesdays, Jan. 23rd - Feb. 27th

Description:
Lets bring some human stories to life! We will discuss figurative proportions while sculpting small characters out of stoneware clay. To understand facial proportions, we will be sculpting a face onto a pre-made pot. You will also get a chance to work bigger or create a more abstract sculpture! There is no skill required- Emily welcomes beginners! You can expect at least three finished pieces by the end of the six weeks.
Supplies: All supplies will be provided.

 

Open Studio
Date: Tuesdays, This class is currently running and ongoing.

Cost: $20 per session + $1 per lb. of fired clay, paid to the instructor when you arrive

Description: Make your clay ideas come to life! Drop-in anytime during open studio hours- newbies and experienced potters welcome. This class is less structured; you will be able to pick the projects you'd like to try! You can experience the wheel, or build a creation on the table.
